Description
A rich and decadent chocolate cake made with Nestle Toll House chocolate chips.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
- 1 cup Nestle Toll House semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, chocolate chips, oil, eggs, water, vanilla extract, and cocoa powder. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes, or until well combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the frosting. In a medium bowl, cream together the powdered sugar, softened butter, milk, and instant coffee granules (if using) until smooth and creamy.
- Once the cake is baked, let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled cake.
Notes
- For an extra chocolatey flavor, you can add an extra 1/2 cup of chocolate chips to the batter.
- If you don’t have instant coffee granules, you can omit them or dissolve 1 teaspoon of espresso powder in 1 tablespoon of hot water.
