Description

A rich and decadent chocolate cake made with Nestle Toll House chocolate chips.


Ingredients

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup Nestle Toll House semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, chocolate chips, oil, eggs, water, vanilla extract, and cocoa powder. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes, or until well combined.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  4. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. While the cake is baking, prepare the frosting. In a medium bowl, cream together the powdered sugar, softened butter, milk, and instant coffee granules (if using) until smooth and creamy.
  6. Once the cake is baked, let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled cake.

Notes

  • For an extra chocolatey flavor, you can add an extra 1/2 cup of chocolate chips to the batter.
  • If you don’t have instant coffee granules, you can omit them or dissolve 1 teaspoon of espresso powder in 1 tablespoon of hot water.
