Description

A comforting and easy cornbread recipe with a sweet honey butter glaze.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease and flour an 8×8 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, and egg.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. While the cornbread is baking, combine the honey and softened butter in a small bowl. Mix until smooth.
  8. Once the cornbread is out of the oven, immediately pour the honey butter mixture over the top. Let it melt and soak in for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can use buttermilk instead of regular milk.
  • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the batter for a slight kick.
  • Serve warm with your favorite chili or soup.
