Description

A popular appetizer featuring crispy fried shrimp coated in a creamy, spicy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • For the sauce:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon lime juice

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, whisk together flour, cornstarch, salt, and pepper.
  2. In another shallow dish, place the beaten egg.
  3. In a third shallow dish, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. Dredge each shrimp first in the flour mixture, then dip in the egg, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs.
  5. In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. While the shrimp are frying, prepare the sauce. In a medium bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey, and lime juice until smooth.
  8. Once all shrimp are fried, toss them gently in the sauce until evenly coated.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra spice, add more sriracha to the sauce.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
