Description

A classic and hearty homemade spaghetti bolognese sauce, perfect for a comforting family meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, finely chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 500g ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 400g canned chopped tomatoes
  • 150ml beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 300g spaghetti
  • Parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add onion, carrots, and celery. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned.
  4. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  5. Pour in chopped tomatoes and beef broth. Add oregano, salt, and pepper.
  6. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. For richer flavor, simmer for up to 1 hour.
  7. Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package directions.
  8. Drain spaghetti and serve with the bolognese sauce. Top with Parmesan cheese.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a splash of red wine with the tomatoes.
  • You can add a bay leaf while simmering the sauce.
