A classic and hearty homemade spaghetti bolognese sauce, perfect for a comforting family meal.

- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 carrots, finely chopped
- 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
- 500g ground beef
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 400g canned chopped tomatoes
- 150ml beef broth
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 300g spaghetti
- Parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add onion, carrots, and celery. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned.
- Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Pour in chopped tomatoes and beef broth. Add oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. For richer flavor, simmer for up to 1 hour.
- Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package directions.
- Drain spaghetti and serve with the bolognese sauce. Top with Parmesan cheese.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add a splash of red wine with the tomatoes.
- You can add a bay leaf while simmering the sauce.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
