Easy Black Bean Burgers

Description

A simple recipe for making flavorful black bean burgers at home.


Ingredients

  • 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Place the rinsed and drained black beans in a medium bowl. Mash them with a fork until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
  2. Add the bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, chili powder, cumin, and salt to the mashed beans. Mix well until everything is combined.
  3. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  5. Carefully place the patties in the hot skillet. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side, until heated through and browned.
  6. Serve immediately on buns with your preferred toppings.

Notes

  • For a firmer patty, you can chill the formed burgers in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before cooking.
  • If you prefer not to use an egg, you can substitute with 1 tablespoon of flaxseed meal mixed with 3 tablespoons of water (let it sit for 5 minutes to gel).
