Description
A simple recipe for making flavorful black bean burgers at home.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Place the rinsed and drained black beans in a medium bowl. Mash them with a fork until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
- Add the bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, chili powder, cumin, and salt to the mashed beans. Mix well until everything is combined.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4 inch thick.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Carefully place the patties in the hot skillet. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side, until heated through and browned.
- Serve immediately on buns with your preferred toppings.
Notes
- For a firmer patty, you can chill the formed burgers in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before cooking.
- If you prefer not to use an egg, you can substitute with 1 tablespoon of flaxseed meal mixed with 3 tablespoons of water (let it sit for 5 minutes to gel).
