Description
Easy apple turnovers made with store-bought puff pastry and a simple apple filling.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, combine the diced apples, 1/4 cup sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and butter. Mix well.
- Unfold the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into four equal squares.
- Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the apple mixture onto one half of each pastry square, leaving a small border.
- Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling to create a triangle. Crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
- Place the turnovers on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops of the turnovers with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with the remaining 1 tablespoon of sugar.
- Cut a few small slits in the top of each turnover to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of nutmeg to the apple filling.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
