- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Grease an 8×8 inch pan.
- In a heavy saucepan, combine butter, granulated sugar, and evaporated milk.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a rolling boil.
- Boil for exactly 4 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat.
- Stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, beat softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
- Gradually beat the cream cheese mixture into the hot fudge mixture.
- If using, stir in chopped nuts.
- Pour into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Let cool completely before cutting into squares.
Notes
- For a smoother fudge, ensure the cream cheese is very soft.
- If you prefer a firmer fudge, cook the sugar mixture for 5 minutes.
