Instructions

  1. Grease an 8×8 inch pan.
  2. In a heavy saucepan, combine butter, granulated sugar, and evaporated milk.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a rolling boil.
  4. Boil for exactly 4 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Remove from heat.
  6. Stir in vanilla extract.
  7. In a separate bowl, beat softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
  8. Gradually beat the cream cheese mixture into the hot fudge mixture.
  9. If using, stir in chopped nuts.
  10. Pour into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  11. Let cool completely before cutting into squares.
