Description

A simple baked casserole combining chili and cornbread batter.


Ingredients

  • 1 (15 ounce) can chili, no beans
  • 1 (8.5 ounce) package cornbread mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 9-inch pie plate or similar baking dish.
  2. Spread the chili evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the cornbread mix, milk, and egg until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Pour the cornbread batter over the layer of chili.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the batter.
  6. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cornbread is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can use your favorite type of canned chili.
  • For a spicier dish, add a dash of hot sauce to the batter.
