Description

A basic recipe for making a smooth caramel dip.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and 2 tablespoons of water in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then stop stirring.
  3. Cook without stirring until the mixture turns a deep amber color, about 8 to 10 minutes. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat. Carefully pour in the heavy cream. The mixture will bubble vigorously. Whisk until smooth.
  5. Add the butter and whisk until fully melted and incorporated.
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
  7. Let the dip cool slightly before serving. It will thicken as it cools.

Notes

  • For a thinner dip, add a tablespoon of milk when adding the cream.
  • Store leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Reheat gently before serving.
