Description

A simple dessert featuring baked apples with a crunchy oat topping and caramel sauce.


Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, toss the apple slices with granulated sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon. Place the apples evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and nutmeg.
  4. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples.
  6. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the top before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for a richer flavor.
  • You can use Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples for the best texture.
