Description

A simple recipe for a fresh California-style hamburger.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1 medium tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 leaves lettuce
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Form ground beef into four equal patties. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat a grill or skillet to medium-high heat. Cook patties for 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium doneness, or to your preference.
  3. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty and let it melt.
  4. Lightly toast the hamburger buns.
  5. Assemble the burgers: Spread mayonnaise and mustard on the bottom bun halves.
  6. Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom bun, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese.
  7. Top with tomato slices and red onion slices.
  8. Place the top bun on the burger. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can substitute mayonnaise with avocado slices for a richer flavor.
  • Use high-quality, fresh ground beef for the best results.
