- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 1 medium tomato, sliced
- 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
- 4 leaves lettuce
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Form ground beef into four equal patties. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Heat a grill or skillet to medium-high heat. Cook patties for 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium doneness, or to your preference.
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty and let it melt.
- Lightly toast the hamburger buns.
- Assemble the burgers: Spread mayonnaise and mustard on the bottom bun halves.
- Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom bun, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese.
- Top with tomato slices and red onion slices.
- Place the top bun on the burger. Serve immediately.
Notes
- You can substitute mayonnaise with avocado slices for a richer flavor.
- Use high-quality, fresh ground beef for the best results.
