Description

A recipe for making rich, dense brownie truffles coated in chocolate.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (18.3 ounces) fudge brownie mix
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the brownie mix according to package directions, substituting the required water with vegetable oil and adding the eggs and vanilla extract.
  2. Bake the brownies in a 9×13 inch pan as directed on the box.
  3. Let the brownies cool completely.
  4. Crumble the cooled brownies into fine crumbs in a large bowl.
  5. Mix the brownie crumbs thoroughly with your hands until they form a uniform, dense dough.
  6. Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Chill the brownie balls in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Melt the chocolate chips and shortening together in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  9. Dip each chilled brownie ball into the melted chocolate, ensuring full coverage.
  10. Return the coated truffles to the parchment-lined sheet.
  11. If desired, immediately sprinkle the tops with powdered sugar before the chocolate sets.
  12. Refrigerate the truffles until the chocolate coating is firm.

Notes

  • For a smoother coating, use tempered chocolate.
  • You can roll the truffles in cocoa powder or sprinkles instead of powdered sugar.
  • Store finished truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
