Description

A straightforward recipe for a dense, chocolatey loaf resembling a brownie.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and flour a standard 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  4. Stir in the water until the batter is smooth. Do not overmix.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  6. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
  7. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a fudgier texture, reduce the water by 2 tablespoons.
  • You can add 1/2 cup of chocolate chips to the batter before baking.
